Mopar Magic News

March 16, 2008

-Mopar Magic visited the beautiful John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Virginia last weekend for two events against an elite field of trucks. The weekend however didn't start out quite the way the team had anticipated with a rollover in the wheelie contest Friday night but they would be back in action Saturday and put on quite a show! After repairing the truck and piecing the body back together Ricky Ownley put the crowd on their feet early in the night by picking up the wheelie contest win. Ownley managed to walk the truck all the way across the cars scoring a 27. Racing saw an early first round exit for Mopar Magic but Ownley returned to turn in solid efforts in the donut and freestyle contests despite rear stearing issues. Now with the first quarter of 2008 in the books the team looks forward to gearing up and running throughout the spring and summer so stay with us as we should get an updated schedule for you soon! Until then keep checking out the site for new photos, videos, and more!

-Ricky Ownley brought Mopar Magic to Jacksonville with success on his mind, and that's exactly what happened. Ownley took out both Brutus and Destroyer in the first two rounds of racing on the way to a semifinal round matchup with Tom Meents and Maximum Destruction. Meents, the eventual race winner, would get the victory, but freestyle was still to come, and Ownley put on a show! Several slap wheelies, including one that ripped the tailgate off, and a huge pogo move were highlights of his run. Ownley kept the truck on all fours and received an 18 for his efforts. You can check out the video from his run right here on the site in the Videos section! Now the team is headed to Tupelo, Mississippi for a big three show weekend. -After a wild weekend in Roanoke, VA which resulted in two rollovers and two racing wins Ricky Ownley and the Mopar Magic team headed home for three events inside the Hampton Coliseum. Ownley came out strong Friday night picking up a 2nd place finish in the wheelie contest and 3rd place in freestyle. Saturday started off great as Ownley picked up a wheelie contest win in the first event and shared two team wheelie contest wins with team mate Steve Sims and Stone Cursher for the day. In racing Ownley was taken out by a hard charging American Gaurdian who would go on to win both events racing competitions. In freestyle Ownley let it all hang loose getting huge air and slap wheelies inside the tight confines of the Hampton Coliseum. In the second event's freestyle Ownley lost the left rear wheel after a big sky wheelie over the van. It would round out a weekend of great performances in front of the packed house of hometown fans. Our next event is in Jacksonville, Florida at the Jacksonville Municipal Stadium against an elite field of Monster Jam's top performers so if your in the area don't miss it!

-Since our last update after the event in Tampa it's been three weeks and with nine events in three cities! The first stop was January 25-26th in Greenville, SC at the Bi-Lo Center for a solid weekend of performances including a wheelie contest win in the final event. Then it was on to the Colonial Center in Columbia, SC. Ricky Ownley piloted the truck to another great weekend of consistent performances despite a rollover in the wheelie competition in the final event of the weekend. After two straight weekends it was off to Virginia for three more events inside the Roanoke Civic Center. Things started off wild Friday night during qualifying when Mopar Magic rolled over. The team got the truck back together though and driver Ricky Ownley met Scott Hartsock and the Gunslinger in the finals where once again Mopar Magic ended up on it's lid! The truck would be sidelined for the night but would be back for both Saturday shows. Despite the two rollovers from the night before Ricky Ownley came back determined to get revenge on Hartsock where they met again in the finals; this time however Mopar Magic came out on top. In the night event Mopar Magic again appeared to be the truck to be as Ownley navigated his way through the bracket again to the finals where he would once again pick up the win! -Mopar Magic rolled into Raymond James Stadium in the normally sunny Tampa, Florida for a wild Monster Jam event on the muddy and rain soaked course. The truck was repaired and ready to go after a light rollover the week before in Atlanta, Georgia. In the first round Ricky Only took out Joe Slyvester and Bad Habit creating a tough second round match up with Tom Meents and Maximum Destruction. Despite a strong effort Ownley was defeated by a hard charging Tom Meents. In freestyle it was struggle to gain traction on the soupy and goopy mud but that wouldn't stop Mopar Magic. Ricky pushed Mopar Magic to it's limits getting some big air of the obstacles and slinging mud all over the place. Now it's on to the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, South Carolina for a three show weekend so be sure to check out Ricky and Mopar Magic. Thanks to Bryan Wagner for the photo!

-After a great start to 2008 in Birmingham it was off to Atlanta to visit the Georgia Dome for a one night Monster Jam event in front of a sold out crowd. The super tacky Georgia clay proved difficult to master in racing as an early first round defeat against Predator would sideline Ricky Ownley and Mopar Magic until freestyle. After the disapointing exit from racing Ricky turned up the heat in freestyle putting on a great show for the packed house. His run included big launches over the buses and a sky wheelie to slap wheelie combo over the cars that had the crowd on their feet! Sadly a bad bounce on the next jump sent the truck awkwardly off to the side cutting the freestyle just short of the full time. The run would score a 21 and held the early lead in the competition. Next week the team travels to Tampa, Florida for another stadium event. Thanks to Robby Haught for providing the photo!
